Be Professional
Go to the lender prepared. Dress professionally, have a professional presentation that includes a professional business plan, and be ready for the questions they may ask. Lenders respond well to confidence, but not arrogance. Be honest about what you do know, what your weaknesses are, and how you plan to compensate for each. The ABC named Australia’s most attractive employer
The ABC has taken top spot on a list of Australia’s most attractive employers, going one better than its second place finish last year.
Australia’s public broadcaster beat Virgin Australia, BAE Systems, and fellow broadcaster Channel 7 to first place in the third annual Randstad Award.
“With people increasingly looking for employers who will reward their efforts and contribution to the organisation, being viewed as an employer who cares for and invests in their people has never been more important to secure and retain top talent in the years ahead,” says Deb Loveridge, managing director Asia Pacific of Randstad.
The award, presented in front of senior executives of Australia’s 150 largest employers, was based on 7000 employee responses compiled by recruitment and HR services company Randstad.
The ABC ranked well across all key criteria, including interesting job content, good learning and development opportunities, and strong workplace culture, and was found to be particularly attractive to women and older generations.
The most attractive industry to work for this year is aviation, with the mining and resources sector in second place.
Federal Government departments were included in the award research for the first time this year, with four departments appearing in the top 20.
Loveridge says that given the constantly shifting nature of work and priorities of workers, the Randstad award is helpful in showing companies what employees are looking for in a competitive job market.
“People will be attracted to employers if they offer the incentives, criteria, and working conditions that match their changing expectations,” she says.
“Business leaders need to consider what benefits are most important to their workforce, whether it’s flexible work arrangements, learning and development programs, or career progression opportunities, and aim to offer these to their employees.”
Loveridge says, “Keeping your finger on the pulse of what workers want is the best way to maintain a strong employer brand and remain attractive to workers looking to change jobs.”

The Role of Fair Employment Housing Act in Employment
Today, getting a job has become one of the most difficult things depending upon the market conditions. The companies are looking to cut the costs and leaving their employees without any prior notice. This has certainly reduced the rate of employment in the recent times. In such circumstances, people with disabilities or any special distinction are left behind. They are not even considered eligible for any kind of job. An opportunity is missing on their part, with which they could also get a chance to express their talent. This is where the Fair Employment Housing Act comes into play. This act strictly supports the disabled and left behind people.

Governor Quinn Announces Illinois Ranks #5 in Nation for Best Corporate Locations – Illinois Gains Over Last Year’s Ranking
CHICAGO – Governor Pat Quinn today announced that the state of Illinois has been ranked #5 in the nation for new and expanded corporate facilities. Illinois moved up two spots from last year’s seventh place ranking, according to the annual analysis by Site Selection magazine, one of the nation’s premier corporate real estate and economic development publications. In 2012, Illinois had 322 corporate facilities locate or expand in the state.
Governor Quinn has made job creation and economic growth his top priority.
“More and more companies are choosing Illinois to invest and grow their business,” Governor Quinn said. “I’m committed to advancing Illinois’ competitiveness, and using every tool at my disposal to expand businesses headquartered in our state and encourage others to locate and do business here.”
Illinois joins Texas, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Georgia on the list of the top ten states with the most locations and expansions. With 311 projects, the Chicago-Naperville-Joliet metro area ranked second on the list of cities in the tier one, top ten metropolitan areas list. Illinois companies that have relocated or seen significant expansions this year include Walgreen, Nippon Sharyo, Chrysler, Woodward and LaFarge among others. Chicago maintained its #2 ranking among the metropolitan areas category for the second year in a row.
To be included in the rankings, new facilities and expansions had to meet at least one of three criteria: (1) involve a capital investment of at least $1 million, (2) create at least 50 new jobs or (3) add at least 20,000 sq. ft. (1,858 sq. m.) of new floor area.
“Illinois has the attributes that are most important to business,” said Adam Pollet, acting director of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. “We have a strong and diverse economy, premier logistics network, skilled workforce and an entrepreneurial spirit driven by innovation.”
The Governor’s Cup analyses, issued by Site Selection magazine, are regarded by corporate real estate analysts as “the industry scoreboard.” Site Selection is the senior publication in the corporate real estate and economic development field and the official publication of the Industrial Asset Management Council (IAMC, at ). The magazine’s circulation base consists of 44,000 executives involved in corporate site selection decisions, most at the CEO/President/COO level.

How to be security conscious in your business
While everyone is thinking about BYOD and BYOA in their small business, there are plenty of security issues to be wary of. Robbie Upcroft, SMB sales manager Asia Pacific at McAfee, offers his advice.
Whats the most important information in your business? Is it your customer database? Is it your sales figures? Is it the document that keeps all the stored passwords for every computer on the system? Most importantly, how protected is this important information?
Every business has files like these, and every business needs to be aware of how attractive these files look to hackers. While deploying viruses that might be randomly downloaded is one way of attacking businesses and individuals alike, a new trend in hacker attacks involves getting into your system, encrypting the data and then ransoming it back to you. This is exactly what happened to one Queensland medical centre that was forced to pay the ransom to recover precious patient files.
As soon as a hacker gets through the desktop they can then access the server and they’re free to go about their business. P
