Management style is the method of management used by the manager or business professional. Being an effective manager means that you need to understand the different management styles and when to use them appropriately. For instance there are times when the management style needs to be authoritative, where all of the information and decision-making is kept among the senior managers. Other times the management style may lend itself to democratic style which would allow the other employees to take part in the decision-making.
In today’s challenging business environment you have to build successful work relationships and interact with employees in a positive way to achieve your organizations goals, this is the essence of workforce management and your management style can affect how your employees feel and react. In my book, Your Business and Your Life, I discuss some key values in each management style, in addition to motivating factors that can help to increase job satisfaction and employee performance at work. Some other management style factors include these three essentials for each employee: respect, appreciation and communication (about those things affecting their specific jobs). We are interdependent with our employees and the success of our business stems from our realizing that and working together to be more productive and successful. A business professional’s goal in such a productive community is not just to urge people to perform their jobs, but rather to inspire them to reach higher and higher levels of creativity and accomplishment. This is accomplished through our management style and our working relationships with our employees.
